Free speech? What free speech?The student who protested the Chinese occupation of Tibet while Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao was giving a speech at Harvard last month is now facing disciplinary action. Before the speech, Harvard took the unusual step of adding an insert in each ticket that read "members of the audience are asked to be courteous and not interrupt the speaker or disrupt the meeting in any way", and the audience was reminded of Harvard's free speech rules before Wen arrived. I wouldn't have a problem with all this if it's Harvard policy that anyone who causes a disruption must face a hearing, but I highly doubt it. |
